Personal Accident
Q Who is an Insured Person and benefits from Personal Accident cover?
A Cover is provided for specific people. Employees, volunteers or church officials including leaders of youth and children’s organisations, whilst carrying out church
business are all insured. Young people (under 16 years of age) are also covered when taking part in an authorised church activity. Certain activities are excluded such as abseiling or mountaineering. The full list is shown in the policy under Section 5.
Q How many units of cover do we have?
A The policy wording indicates the amount of benefit that relates to one unit. The policy schedule refers to the number of units that apply. Two units of cover are given automatically, but you can increase the number of units by paying an additional premium.
Q Do any age restrictions apply?
A No age limits are referred to in the policy other than that which defines young people.
Q Will the cover apply away from church premises and during church trips?
A Cover will operate away from the premises, subject to the territorial limits defined by the policy for authorised activities and persons engaged in church business.
Group Travel
Q What constitutes a ‘trip’ and are trips abroad covered?
A An organised outing or holiday away from the church premises. The cover only applies in respect of church trips of up to 17 days that you have organised and that take place within the territorial limits - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland. We can
arrange cover for foreign trips if requested.
Q Should we notify members of the party going on a church trip that there is cover under our policy and summarise the benefits?
A It is wise to inform members of the party going on the trip of the cover provided by the Church Shield Policy. Cover includes personal belongings up to £500 and up to £250 for money. If these limits are insufficient the individual may need to arrange their own insurance.
Q Do the people going on the trip have to be church members to be covered?
A No, the definition of an Insured Person is ‘each person travelling on the trip’ and so will apply to anyone invited by the church, whether a member or not.
