Standard Cover
Q What is the standard cover provided by the Church Shield Policy?
A The policy provides a combination of different types of cover, specifically designed to meet the insurance requirements of a Methodist church.
Under Section 1 - Property, loss or damage caused by certain insured events is covered. These include, for example, fire, theft, storm/flood, water damage and impact by road vehicles, as well as accidental damage. A full list appears in the policy, along with the corresponding exclusions which apply.
In addition, cover for Loss of Income, Public & Employers’ Liability, Money, Personal Accident and Group Travel is provided by other Sections. We have also arranged, in conjunction with DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company, to include legal protection
insurance.
Definition of Buildings and Contents
Q What is the distinction drawn between Buildings and Contents and how are they treated by the policy?
A Buildings - Generally, we include fixtures and fittings, heating installations and pews whether fixed or unfixed. We consider items permanently attached to the structure of the premises to be classed as part of the Buildings such as kitchen units. External features such as car parks, boundary walls, gates, railings, hedges and fences and the underground services connecting to the premises are all part of the Buildings.
Contents - The Contents of the premises are moveable furniture, furnishings, pianos, and other contents of the premises, which belong to you or for which you are responsible.
This does not include property belonging to outside users.
External Metalwork
Q What is meant by the phrase ‘External Metalwork’ and is this covered under the Church Shield Policy?
A This is a definition used in the policy to describe copper, brass or bronze fitted to or forming part of the exterior of the buildings. For example, a copper roof would be classed under this definition.
You have automatic cover on External Metalwork under the policy for £5,000 in total. If this is insufficient for your church, additional cover can be purchased. Please contact us for a quotation.
Stained Glass Windows
Q Are stained glass windows insured under the Church Shield Policy?
A We consider stained glass windows within the policy definition of ‘Special Glass’. In full, this definition includes stained, painted, engraved or etched glass but does not include coloured glass or leaded lights (which are deemed to be part of the general ‘Building’ Sum Insured).
You have automatic cover on Special Glass under the policy for £5,000 in total. If this is insufficient for your church, additional cover can be purchased. Please contact us for a quotation.
